For those who cannot wait for Christmas and winter flavours to unfold, Bridgemas is the ideal opportunity to do so roughly a month ahead. And so the term’s final tasting will consist of sweet and warming whiskies which we will serve with traditional British Christmas sweets but also non-christmassy nibbles. This is also an opportunity how whisky pairs with food and for you to find out what sweets suit your whisky tasing experience best.

We kick off Michaelmas as usual with our Tour of Scotland but other than previous years will we host two ToS tastings this term. This is meant to show you whisky diversity within one region. The first tasting will take you to the Highlands, Speyside and Islay, the more well-known whisky regions of Scotland. In the second tasting you’ll try whiskies from the Lowlands, Islands and Campbeltown; regions one considers to be more niche in terms of whisky. For the full Scotch experience, we recommend that you attend both events.

Throughout this year’s events we’ve presented a huge range of whiskies from around the world, and each has provoked a reaction from you when you’ve experienced it. That might have been delight, or indifference or a desire to stop drinking it. And then we’ve told you the price of the bottle and some of you might have gone immediately online to buy one, popped down to the Wine Merchant’s to exercise your member’s discount, or sat there in shock at how much someone expects you to pay for what you’ve just tried.

Well, with tasting we’re taking a slightly different approach to the line up. It’s not a regional theme, or a flavour theme, but a economic theme. The opposite of our Premium tasting, we’ll be enjoying some whisky bargains, with the ticket price reduction to match. 

Our aim is to prove that you don’t have to spend a fortune to enjoy a dram!

There hadn’t been any whisky production in England for over a century when, in 2009, the English Whisky Co bottled their first single malt. Now, 13 years on, there are 26 distilleries at various stages of operation. Unlike Scotland, there are no specific regional variants and unlike Ireland there’s no predominant single style.  The history of English whisky is being written and reclaimed, so join us to taste the state of the nation.

It is said that the origins of the word whiskey come from the old Irish Gaelic Uisce Beatha, meaning ‘water of life.’ Once the most widely drunk spirit in the world, Irish Whiskey (spelt with an ‘e’) has a history and a cultural significance that not many beverages can boast. Expressions come in a few varieties; whether it be malt whiskey, grain, single or blended, Irish whiskey is typically light and floral, with a uniquely pleasant cereal characteristic which not only sets it apart from other regional expressions but also provides a special connection to the terroir and heritage of Ireland. We look forward to seeing you at this tasting.

As a special treat, out of term time, we’ll be hosting a tasting from the people at Plantation Rum. Around since the 90’s, the drive behind the company is to pair superior rums from the Caribbean with the expertise of fine spirit crafting from the Cognac producing regions of France. 
We’ll be joined by brand ambassadors for the evening to guide us through a selection of their rums from both the core and specialist ranges. We will also be choosing some chocolates from a local Cambridgeshire source to pair as an extra Easter bonus. This is another tasting where we are able to give all ticket proceeds (after chocolate) to a local charity as well.
